Description

Kuwacha, or mulberry leaf tea, is a remarkable herbal tea known for its wide range of health benefits and delightful flavor. Made from the finely ground leaves of the mulberry tree, Kuwacha is rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, but its most unique trait is the presence of 1-deoxynojirimycin (DNJ). DNJ is a phytochemical that can only be found in mulberry leaves, and studies have shown that when taken before meals it helps to stabilize blood sugar levels and aids in carbohydrate absorption. Mulberry leaves also contain zinc, potassium, iron, calcium, carotenoids, vitamins (A1, B1, B2, C), and are a great source of fiber. Naturally caffeine-free, Kuwacha can be enjoyed any time of day. As a powder, it can be prepared the same way as matcha, making it a great substitute for those who are caffeine sensitive and appreciate the ritual of whisking tea.

Our Kuwacha was grown by the Kawaji family in Kagoshima. This family has been growing organic teas since 1988 and even make their own slightly fermented fertilizer. The region of Kagoshima where it was grown has a high temperature difference between day and night which helps the tea develop a deeper flavor and the local volcanic ash-based soils allow for good drainage, which is vital for growing healthy plants.

Sugimoto rocks!

I tried the Organic Kuwacha and I really like the taste of this tea. It’s even better in my new Kumidashi Yunomi cup :) The health benefits of green teas is a good thing. To me ancient Japanese tradition in whisking tea and using traditional tea ware is a big thing.
