Description

With its rich black finish and finely hammered surface, this tea canister is a striking example of Tsubame’s metalworking heritage. The deep, polished luster of black copper lends it a quiet sophistication, while the meticulous hand-finishing reflects the skill of the artisans who craft each piece. Designed for both beauty and function, it features an inner lid to help protect tea leaves from moisture and maintain their delicate character.

Larger than the other canisters in the Tsubame Tea Tin collection, this piece is accompanied by a matching tea scoop and housed in a kiribako (paulownia wood box), traditionally used for storing precious objects. A refined choice for those who appreciate timeless design and expert artistry, it brings a sense of understated luxury to the tea ritual.

Tsubame City (燕市) is located within Niigata Prefecture, about a two hour shinkansen ride from Tokyo. This area’s history of craft tool production started during the Edo Period, about 400 years ago, with the production of Japanese nails. Today, the area calls upon its rich history and inherited traditions to produce all manner of metallic kitchenware. Tsubame City is known for its quality both within Japan and internationally, so we are very excited to be able to offer a few examples of their handcrafted workmanship.
